Arnica for birth

Arnica is Homeopathy’s number one remedy for bruising and soft tissue damage. Often we think of using it after our children have had a bad fall or accident playing. But its uses go way beyond that. Overdoing it physically at work, gardening or when exercising can mean we end up feeling sore and bruised and that’s when we benefit from Arnica’s help. We can reach for it for help with pain and healing after dental work, car accidents, surgery and giving birth

Another side to Arnica is it’s ability to help with shock. A fall, sports injury or being involved in an accident can all be sudden, unexpected events and leave us feeling forgetful and not fully present. This remedy is particularly good for people who don’t want a fuss made of them or their injury. “Leave me alone.. I’m fine” even when it’s obvious they aren’t.

Giving birth is a natural process and our bodies take the lead here. We have got used to our bodies changing as our baby is growing. Birth is a much quicker process and the associated muscles, ligaments and surrounding tissue undergo a lot of stress. That’s where Arnica comes into its own. If we think about birthing as being one of the most intense physical experiences a woman will undergo we can begin to see that shock can be part of that experience too. It’s not necessarily a negative state, just a feeling of “wow… my body did this”.

Sometimes our baby’s birth doesn’t go to plan. If you have any sense that your newborn may have experienced pressure, bruising, or shock, then a dose of Arnica is will help ease any pain as well as help healing. Natural therapies like homeopathy can be used alongside conventional medications and procedures to speed healing and give pain relief. The two modes of health care, medical and holistic, both have their strengths. We are in a place of personal power when we are grateful for what both can offer and can access both for our health and that of our baby.

There are many homeopathic remedies that can help through pregnancy and the birth process. But if you were to ask me which one I wouldn’t be without… it’s Arnica.
